Viewing Patient Information

Updated on

Patient Information can be viewed in a number of different ways in the NextGen EHR Application. However, for the purpose of this lesson, we will learn how to view patient information from the Patient History panel. The Patient History panel consist of three tabs; Patient History, Patient Demographics, and Categories.

Patient History Tab

The Patient History tab keeps a chronological list of Encounters. Each Encounter is a record of an interaction that took place with the patient whether it was in the office or outside of the office. To view Patient Information on this tab:

  1. Expand the desired Encounter date.
  2. Select the document that represents the encounter with the patient. (i.e. Office Visit, Nurse Visit, etc.)

Note: it is important to remember that the template is not a document and therefore cannot be printed.

Patient Demographics Tab

The Patient Demographics tab displays template options that present users with the ability to view additional patient information. Because the template list varies from practice to practice. We will just list a few of them along with a brief description.

  • Patient Demographics MG - View patient demographic information which also includes; patient Appointment Listing, Emergency Contact, and Preferred Pharmacy.
  • CAIR Consent MG - Document patient consent for the California Immunization Registry.
  • MMS Anticoagulation MG - View INR information for patients being managed by the Medication Management Coumadin Clnic.
  • Order Administration MG - View patient order information. (i.e. labs, diagnostics, referrals, etc.)

Categories Tab

The Categories tab displays documentation that has been scanned or file imported into the patients chart. Each document that is scanned or imported is assigned to a particular Category. To view the patients information from this tab:

  1. Expand desired Category.
  2. Expand Document Type.
  3. Select the Date of Service.

Note: the NextGen Docs category does not consist of imported or scanned documents, but is used to list all generated NextGen EHR documents in one place.
